Understanding The Cause Behind The Pain
Each day thousands of people worldwide scour the internet and online pharmacies for a more effective treatment of hemorrhoids. The Internet is filled with websites offering quick cures, home remedies and recommended treatments yet millions of people worldwide are still forced to suffer in silence and search on. The reason for this failure to find a cure for hemorrhoids is not because these remedies and recommendations are ineffective. They fail because of a lack of understanding about hemorrhoids, its symptoms and how to properly treat it.
The worrying part is that 89% of all Americans will suffer from hemorrhoids at some time in their lives.
They say that knowledge is one's greatest weapon. I say that knowledge of hemorrhoids is one's greatest medicine.
What Is Hemorrhoids?
The term Hemorrhoids refers to a condition where the veins around the
rectum and anus become swollen and inflamed. Most people would first
begin to feel and notice a small bump which while not yet painful might
feel a little irritating and uncomfortable. However, left untreated and
exposed, these irritating lumps will begin to grow larger and inflamed.
The lump would by this time begin to itch and feel slightly painful.
Passing motion at this point starts getting very uncomfortable and soon
the friction caused by hard stool or rubbing against the material of ones
clothes would cause the skin of the lump to break and bleed.
Unfortunately, just leaving it alone will not heal hemorrhoids and it will
worsen if left untreated. That is why it is very important to seek a safe,
gentle and effective treatment as soon as one realizes that they have
hemorrhoids.
What Causes Hemorrhoids?
The most common cause of Hemorrhoids is increased straining during bowel movements. As constipation is common of premenstrual syndrome and menstruation, women need to take extra care not to overstrain when passing motion.
Hypertension, especially portal hypertension is also known to cause hemorrhoids, because of the close connection of the portal vein to the veins in the rectum.
Obesity is another problem that can lead to hemorrhoids. Overweight people who sit too long will increase the pressure to their rectal vein causing it to swell.
Other conditions or situations which are said to cause Hemorrhoids include:
* diarrhea
* hard coughing
* bouts of vomiting
* prolonged sitting
* pregnancy (pressure on the lower abdomen caused by the uterus)
* a sedentary lifestyle
* eating a low-fiber diet
* standing or lifting too much
* cirrhosis of the liver
* anal intercourse
* anal or rectal infection
